EJ's with extra inning heroics in their series win over Sals. Always a classic battle, EJ's put up 2 runs in the 11th inning of game one for a 9-7 win and then waited for the 12th inning of game 3 to score 3 to take out Sals 10-7. Chris Basing had 5 RBI for Sals in game 2 of their 15-1 victory.
Keith Moldenhauer 11-14 and Jason Roecker 12-16 power Slinger House to a sweep of Kirchhayn Country Club.
The Pub at Blacktone Creek needed a sweep to sneak into the playoffs , but Kenickys 2 spoiled the party with a Double/Triple walk-off in the bottom of the 11th in game 2 and a 5-4 victory.
The Turn at Wanaki garnered their needed sweep of Flynns to hang on to 4th place in the CDL standings. The 36-run night was led by Adrian Krueger 10-16 and Chris Halverson 9-16.
Brian Lighthizer 11-16 powers Nite Owls in their sweep at Whiskey Corners.
A wild one at Robin Bird's house between the two Sportscorner teams. After scoring 7 runs in the 7th inning of game one to tie the score at 9-9, the Sportscorner 3 pitching couldn't hold up as a Mike Phillips game winning triple for Sportscorner 1 sealed the deal for the denim in a 10-9 win. Tied in the 9th inning of game 2 at 6-6, Sportscorner 1 sent 9 batters to the dish, and scored 5 runs for an 11-6 victory. SC3 took game three 12-3, and then a buffet broke out.
YEAR END STANDINGS
It's back-to-back weeks for #1 seed Pioneer Bowl as they host upset minded #8 seed Kenickys 1. Pioneer boasts the most powerful lineup in the league with 9 players hitting over .400. Pioneer has only 3 losses at home this season, but the young and scrappy Kenickys 1 team, led by Chris Olmschenk and Joel Fus, are ready to put the pressure on and come away with a stunner.
#7 Kirchhayn Country Club travels to #2 seed and defending League Champion Slinger House for a second consecutive week. Coming off a sweep of Kirchhayn, Slinger House can put up big numbers offensively and are led by League batting Champion Keith Moldenhauer who hit a scorching .571.
Two years removed from a League Championship, #6 Whiskey Corners takes their always unpredictable offense to #3 seed Big Guys 6.9. BG6.9 is led by Kevin Roecker who smashed a league leading 141 hits while hitting .498. The Woody led Whiskey Corners squad swept Big Guys 6.9 in week 2 and is hoping that confidence will carry over into a round one upset.
Seperated by one game in the standings, #5 Nite Owls travels the furthest this week as the head south to take on #4 seed The Turn at Wanaki. Wanaki and Nite Owls have very similar stats and this should prove to be an epic battle. Nite Owls took 2 from The Turn in week one in Slinger.
Top seeded Sportscorner 1 looks to kick in their always tough playoff mental fortitude as the host Flynn's. SC1 comes into this game with a 4-8 record the last month but did take 2 games from Flynn's in January.
#7 Big Guys 2 and their talented lineup travel to take on Big Sky Country. Big Guys took 2 games at Big Sky a month ago.
#6 Sportscorner 3 heads down the road to take on always tough #3 seed Bubs. SC3 is led by the Z-man Scott Zandi and his .437 average and Bubs takes their lead from Tom Niese and his 79 triples. Bubs took 2 games from SC3 earlier this season.
#5 seed Sals can walk down the raod this week as they head to #4 DJ's Goalpost for the battle of Downtown Menomonee Falls. Rory Crocker predicts a win for Sals but DJ's will use that as locker room bulletin board material and motivation as they try and move on. Sals took 2 games from DJ's in week one.
A big Dartball week ahead as teams jockey for playoff positioning to determine who will ultimately bring home the hardware in the Country Dartball League playoffs. Athough 14 of the 16 playoff teams have clinched a spot in the post-season, there is not one playoff seeding that has been determined. Slinger House can win the League Championship with a sweep of Kirchhayn Country Club and a Kenickys 1 sweep of Pioneer Bowl. Slinger House can also fall to 3rd place if they would get swept against Kirchhayn and Big Guys 6.9 would sweep DJ's Goalpost. The battle for 4th place and a first-round home playoff game in the Championship bracket is a wide open battle between The Turn at Wanaki, Nite Owls, and Whiskey Corners. Wanaki, currently in 4th place, controls their own destiny and holds the tie-breaker over Whiskey Corners but loses the tie-breaker versus Nite Owls. Nite Owls travels to Whiskey Corners this week. Kenickys 1 is currently in 8th place and has clinched a Championship Bracket berth for the first time in their history. Kirchhayn CC is in 7th place but could move up with a sweep and a Whiskey Corners sweep.
The Consolation bracket is a cluster with Big Sky Country currently holding the top spot but could also fall to 5th place or lower with 3 losses. Blackstone Creek is still hoping to climb in to the Consolation Bracket but needs a sweep and some unlucky fate from others to gain a spot. There is a crazy scenario, in which Sals, Sportscorner 3, Flynns, Big Guys 2, and Blackstone Creek all finish at 23-34, that Flynns could be eliminated from the post season based on a 5-way head-to-head comparison.
Kenickys 2 and EJ's have been eliminated from the post season.
Now on to Week 18.
Pioneer Bowl used an 8-run 3rd in game 1 and 5-6 showings from Chad Kuhfuss and Joel Heidtke in a 19-14 win over Big Guys 6.9. Pioneer eventually took 2 games and won the beer.
Craig Braidigan triples in John Hilgendorf giving Blackstone a 9th inning win at Bubs. Bubs takes game 2 by a score of 12-7 but Troy Schmidt and Ryan Gilbert both 4-5 in a game 3 victory for the Pub @ Blackstone Creek.
Max Becker with a game winning triple scoring Matt Sweeney in the 11th inning of a game 3 victory for Big Guys 2 as they sweep Flynns.
A big 9-13 evening from Ray Leisener takes out Nite Owls as Kirchhayn CC wins 2.
A 3-run 8th inning for Sals came complete with a Rory Crocker 2-run triple and a Matt Ammentorp single as they beat Sportscorner 3 leading to an eventual sweep.
Justin Woloszyk a 5-5 showing in game 2 helps DJ's Goalpost sweep Sportscorner 1. The normally playoff peaking SC1 squad has now lost 7 of 9.
Bob Scheiber has the CDL game of the night as he powers out 13 hits in 16 at bats to lead Whiskey Corners to a sweep over EJ's. Greg Metzger 8-14 and Kevin Frederick 8-15 against EJ's. Whiskeys, the 2019-2020 League Champion, has now won 16 of 21 games.
Doug Fiedler and Jeff Moldenhauer both 8-15 and Keith Moldenhauer 7-14 as Slinger House sweeps The Turn at Wanaki with former CDL legend Kevin Moldenhauer watching in the stands.
Kenickys 1 who takes 2 at Big Sky, clinches the 8th seed in The Championship Bracket, but will not 3-peat in the Consolation Bracket. Bittersweet, start of something big, or will it tear their team apart? More to follow as we go live next week to the "Kiss and Cry Room" where Dan and Chris will try and reconcille their differences.
IF THE PLAYOFFS STARTED TODAY
Big Guys 6.9 lit the lamp for 43 runs against Bubs who put up 30 and still lost all 3 games. Travis Steger powered a BG6.9 game one win hitting 4-4. Bubs scored 2 in the 9th inning of game 2 to tie the game at 15-15, but that was short lived as Bruce Frank drove in Steger in the 10th inning for an eventual 16-15 victory. Zac Frank batted 6-6 with 6 RBI in game 2 while Kenin Roecker was 11-17 overall for the 6.9ers.
After getting shut out 14-0 in game one, Big Guys 2 put up 8 runs in the 3rd inning of game 2 and held a 9-5 lead in the 7th inning before Pioneer Bowl tallied 10 runs in the last 3 innings for a 15-9 win and an eventual series sweep. Kim Schmitt 11-5 on the evening for Pioneer Bowl.
After The Pub @ Blackstone Creek and Kirchhayn Country Club split games one and two, Blackstone tallied 2 in the 9th inning of game 3 to tie the score at 8-8. On to the 11th inning, and not to be outdone, Jared Bublitz of Kirchhayn crushed a 2-run blast over the junkyard giving KCC a 10-8 win.
